Thanks Kev. Using mango as a pacifier isn’t a standard or traditional practice across South Asia (atleast not in India).
Mango pulp is often one of the first fruits introduced during weaning (usually after 6 months), and in some rural areas, babies might suck on a mango seed (gutli) under supervision, more as a playful, soothing thing during teething.
But it’s not used like a Western pacifier or as a sleep aid, and there’s no cultural norm around it.
Plus, there are safety concerns like choking, so it’s definitely not a widespread or advised practice.
What about the butter fruit?
Ah, A totally different nutrient profile, but equally misunderstood 😄 Let me know what you'd like to know about it?
Thank you for writing this, very informative. I didn't know there was an agenda against Mangos. Not even the fruit are safe from haters.
Exactly! No fruit is safe from misinformation while frosted donuts roam free.
Much needed for this time, Ishita! The hate towards mangoes is real. As you said, mangoes aren’t the enemy.
It’s the sugar-loaded desserts with mangoes that are the real concern. Blaming the fruit instead of the processing is where most people go wrong.
Yes! We need to stop punishing real food for processed choices.
In South East Asia, parents use mangos as pacifiers for their babies.

I have no idea about India.
